The Letter "Ee"

Back to school and back to schedules...hooray! We missed Ava.
Monday we started with the Eva and Wally puzzle from Christmas.
Then to practicing writing E and e on the white board.
We read "Big Egg" and "Green Eggs and Ham."
Carter was excited for the boiled eggs and so we went straight to the table.
Everyone peeled their own hard boiled egg. Some claimed they hated eggs.
I won't name any names. LOL.
We also talked shortly about what animals hatch from eggs.

At the table we wrote thank you notes for our Christmas gifts
and stuffed them into envelopes. Hope you enjoyed.
We practice more writing and had snacks...English muffins.
Then we learned about Emotions or feelings. We read "The little Engine that Could," talking about what the trains and toys were feeling and practiced making faces with similar emotions. We also used a paper face and inserted different eyes and mouths to make different emotion words...Sad, surprised, confused, etc. This was so FUN! Should have taken more pictures.
We finished off the day with an Elephant Hunt.
You know...through the tall grass, mosquitoes, etc.

Wednesday we started with more puzzles much easier than Eva.

Everyone gathered around my white board...we talked about our five senses.
Taste (Tongue), Touch (Hands), Sight (Eyes), Sound (Ears) and Smell (Nose)

We did one or two activities for each of our senses.
Smell- we each took a candle, smelled it, and passed it on. There were a few we didn't like as well as the others.
Sound
- We learned about sound waves and our Ears by trying an experiment with sound. Let me explain the picture. The bowl has plastic wrap with a rubber band to keep it tight. There is some white rice on top of the plastic. By hitting a pan with a wooden spoon we could "see" the sounds waves making the rice jump. We further learned about ears with a paper creation and a picture from a book. Everyone was super intrigued. Then we played name that tune while I played primary songs on the piano.
Touch - Using several brown paper bags, I had the kids reach their hands in and tell me what they could feel. Cotton balls, Corn flakes, oranges, salt, and pudding. The hardest thing for the kids was keeping quiet and not blurting out what was in the bag. And they desperately wanted to take a peek inside, before just feeling with their hands. We went to the table after this to paint with pudding on some plates.

Linzie and Claire

Oh...following our discussion about touch I mentioned a girl I once knew who had no hands. She did everything with her feet from fixing her head band to playing piano. The kids had to try!
Taste - This one was easy to incorporate into snack time. We tasted different items like salty pretzels, sour oranges, spicy salami, bitter cocoa, and sweet candy. I think everyone tried everything, even the cocoa! Claire even came up with an awesome application, she showed us all how to make e's with our orange peels. What a clever girl.

Sight - We used our eyes to practice writing little e's and circle all the objects beginning with the letter E. Then we used our Eyes to read "The Poky Little Puppy" and identified the senses he used to find objects in the story. We ended just as parents started to arrive. Whew!
